Tasting Note

A mild mannered wine with red and blue fruits throughout, and a slightly austere finish. While the wine has the spice and vanilla extracted from barrels, most of the dryness is not from the oak treatment but from tangy fruit. Drink soon or over the next few years.

Wine Description

For the Crianza, careful grape selection is followed by temperature-controlled (29ºC) fermentation on the skins of de-stemmed grapes, a long maceration between 21 and 28 days, and malolactic fermentation, clarification and fining. The wines mature for 12 months in French and American barriques and further aging in bottle for 12 months. The deep, dark ruby-red wine expresses ripe black fruits, balanced by well integrated oak. On the palate, the Crianza is full- bodied and complex, with a seductive, ripe-tannin style, balanced by fine oak nuances and a multi-layered finish.

About the Winery

Viña Mayor was founded in 1986 with the objective of crafting a limited production of high-quality wines. The winery is surrounded by vineyards, overlooking the sinuous turns of the Duero River as it passes through Quintanilla de Onésimo. Our wonderful location on the highway from Aranda de Duero to Valladolid places us on the "Golden Mile" of the Ribera del Duero grape- growing region. Our aging and storage facility utilizes humidity- and temperature-control systems. Our cellars hold 8,000 barrels of the best French and American oak in constant renovation, assuring a more aromatic and elegant differentiation of the wine.
