Viña Mayor Barrel Aged Tempranillo 2010
3 months in 225L American oak barrels

HABarcelo North America
More Old School than new and international, this nonetheless shows a great deal of ripe cherry fruits. But the vanillin barrel notes also show the mushroomy complexity of aging in older barrels, along with length. Drink soon or in the next several years.
The grapes for the Barrel Aged Tempranillo are are carefully selected, undergo a temperature-controlled (29ºC) fermentation on the skins of the destemmed grapes, followed by a long maceration between 21 and 28 days. The wines proceed through malolactic fermentation, clarification and fining before maturation for 3 months in American oak barriques. The wine showcases a deep black cherry-red color and elegant aromas of ripe red fruits combined with well integrated oak. The wine is fleshy, full bodied and well-balanced on the palate with integrated sweet tannins, ending in a long, round and smooth finish.
About the Winery
Viña Mayor was founded in 1986 with the objective of crafting a limited production of high-quality wines. The winery is surrounded by vineyards, overlooking the sinuous turns of the Duero River as it passes through Quintanilla de Onésimo. Our wonderful location on the highway from Aranda de Duero to Valladolid places us on the "Golden Mile" of the Ribera del Duero grape- growing region. Our aging and storage facility utilizes humidity- and temperature-control systems. Our cellars hold 8,000 barrels of the best French and American oak in constant renovation, assuring a more aromatic and elegant differentiation of the wine.
