Wine & Spirits 90 Points-“One of Year’s Best Cavas”
Natural Merchants, LLC
While a gentler style of Cava, Tarantas offers a yeasty, rather dramatic nose with bread dough and lemon. The mouth has lots of apple and citrus and suggests that there might be something ahead for the wine, even though it isn't made as a wine for aging. Nonetheless, it will age. Drink now or in the next few years.
The Cava, with its bright gold-yellow color, expresses aromas of bread crust, orange blossom, honeycomb and bubblegum. A round, crisp entry precedes a dry, tart medium body with notes of baked lemon, rubbery sap and straw. The wine finishes with piquant citrus, fish oil and nectarine skin. It is perfect for celebrations and as an aperitif.
About the Winery
Bodegas Iranzo, with vintners from the Iranzo Pérez–Duque family, is proud of its distinction as producing the oldest estate-bottled wines in Spain. The first recorded written evidence of the vineyard Cañada Honda Estate, owned by the Iranzo Pérez–Duque family, dates back to 1335 as granted by King Pedro I of Castilla. In addition, Bodegas Iranzo is the only vineyard in Europe located in a National Reserve Park.
