Wine from Galicia Importers and Wholesalers
Mencía is still a wine with plasticity; there is yet no dominant style. Moreover, Mencía will show different styles in differing Dos; Ribeira Sacra’s way forward with the grape may be reflected in this version: minty, floral, bright fruit and that Rosemary or Rosehips note at the finish that exemplifies the grape.
Since the second century BC, veritable heroes from the banks of the river Sil have been cultivating grapes in extreme conditions. These centuries-old techniques together with state-of-the-art winemaking technology give us a wine with a distinctive taste from dedicated effort. Following a careful selection of the best grapes from our estates at harvest, the grapes undergo a . low-temperature maceration for 72 hours, followed by fermentation at controlled temperature with daily “délastage” and over-pumping at a maximum temperature of 82°F in order to extract the full color, aroma and complexity of the grape. The wine expresses high- to mid-depth color of black cherry with violent tones. Recommended with meat, game and fish.
About the Winery
Bodegas Regina Viarum cultivates winery-owned vineyards arranged in terraces on the slopes of the river Sil in the very heart of the Ribeira Sacra, Galicia, where wine has been produced since the time of the Roman Empire. The region's Mediterranean climate is characterized by a wide temperature range and low rainfall concentrated mainly in the winter months. Grapes from these terraces are harvested entirely by hand on slopes as steep as 60°. The terraces themselves are composed of of weathered slate shale over bedrock, which lend distinctive mineral tones and aromas, a fundamental character of the wines.
