Ramón Bilbao Gran Reserva 2004
20 months in American oak
90 Points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
W.J. Deutsch & Sons, Ltd
I love old style Rioja, indeed, Gran Reserva is Rioja’s unique version of the way most great wines must have tasted in the past. Bilbao’s 2004 is very true to the style but even more fruited. Drink now or five years or more.
The wine was composed from a strict selection of grapes from Rioja Alta, picked by hand during October's second and third weeks. The artful, careful selection was followed by grape fermentation and aging in American oak casks for 20 months. The wine was bottled and carefully stored in our cellar, where it continued to mature undisturbed for an additional 18 months.
