Tasting Note
A persuasive example of Syrah in Spain, this shows plenty of ripeness (although it shows less ripeness than typical new-world examples might offer) with red and black cherries, hints of raisins and white pepper. There’s plenty of new oak at this point (vanilla and caramel) but the fruit is every bit as powerful. The finish is almost blueberry pie, white pepper, green tobacco, drying tannins, and toast. Drink soon or in the next five years.
Wine Description
The wine has an attractive red cherry color with intense purple hues. It reveals an elegant fragrance of peach and cherry fruit, along with balsamic and touches of licorice from aging in French oak casks. On the palate, there are pleasant tannins with floral notes. This delightful wine undergoes a long cold maceration followed by alcohol fermentation at 18ºC. Malolactic fermentation takes place in new French oak casks.
About the Winery
Founded in the nineteenth century, Bodegas Montalvo Wilmot is a small family-owned winery that specializes in the limited production of terroir-type wines produced with our own grapes. The vineyard, with its very calcareous soils and a favorable climate to ensure the best quality wines, occupies an impressive spot in La Mancha region surrounded by the natural lakes that are part of the Lagunas de Ruidera Natural Park. Together with a Manchego-type cheese farm and a country hotel, the winery is a member of the top Spanish enotourism association.
