Tasting Note
This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon announces itself with those cedar and green pepper notes, alongside cherry, plum, and even boysenberry flavors. At present, cedary, nutty, and barrel-derived aromas play with and against Cabernet’s herbal, peppery notes. If this sounds confusing, it’s not; it’s just complex. In the finish, some earth and forest floor hints accentuate the tobacco character, ending dusty and rather austere at present. In short, the wine is young and needs a few more years of cellaring. Drink over the next decade or more.
Wine Description
The wine expresses an intense aroma, showing all the classic characteristics of the native land of Mas La Plana, together with notes of truffle, toast, and wild red berry conserve. It has great body and breadth on the palate, along with juicy tannins that become balanced and elegant.
About the Winery
The Torres family has grown grapes and made wines in Cataluña, near Barcelona, since the 1700s. Today, the fifth generation is involved in the family winery, spearheading new projects in Priorat, Ribera del Duero, Jumilla, Toro, and Rioja. The vineyards today encompass 4,200 acres and include the noble varieties pioneered by Miguel A. Torres in the mid-1960s.
