Las Rocas Garnacha 2009
A portion of the wine was aged in French and American oak for nearly one year.
90 Points, The Wine Advocate
E&J Gallo Winery
This wine, which seemed to carry more new oak earlier, has begun to soften and integrate. The tannins are still present but overwhelmed by the cherries, raspberries and blackberries, along with new oak notes of clove. Drink now or in the next several years.
The vibrant red color of our 2009 Garnacha hints at its rich dark cherry and blackberry aromas and flavors. This well-structured wine integrates nuances of oak with round tannins to deliver a rich palate of decadent fruit flavors.
About the Winery
A collaboration among the young Spanish winemakers of Bodegas San Alejandro and French and American wine specialists, Las Rocas is a testament to passionate winemaking with a modern view. Our wines speak to the distinctive varietal character of Garnacha, including our Red Blend, which showcases this Spanish grape. We impart only a light oak influence to let the terroir of Calatayud's rocky, sloping vineyards take center stage.
