Beronia Tempranillo Crianza 2009
7 months in mixed American and French oak barrels
90 Points from The Wine Advocate
San Francisco Wine Exchange
Soft and gentle, this is more in the style of traditional Rioja than the new, ultra-ripe school. Spicy American oak notes linger but so too does the wine’s red and black cherry fruit along with some cellar smells.
The Beronia Crianza possesses a deep red garnet color with cherry tones. On the nose, the red fruit and licorice stand out over a base of toasted notes and tobacco, along with subtle touches of sweet spices. Altogether, it is round, pleasant and balanced on the palate with prominent mature fruit and a long aftertaste. The Crianza is perfect with meat and pasta dishes.
