With black cherry and plum, and even some blackberries, this ripe to very ripe wine is offset by spice, tannin and earth. A more rustic style befitting a classic southern area. Drink soon or in the next few years.
For this wine, each variety is cold-macerated for 2 days before fermentation, which takes place at controlled temperatures in small stainless steel tanks for around 20 days. Malolactic fermentation in casks follows.
About the Winery
Located in Santa Cruz de Retamar, in the northwest of Toledo province, La Verdosa estate is a superb example of Mediterranean pasture land (dehesa) that is typical of the Iberian Peninsula. The Alberche river runs along the valley, flanked by gently rolling hills. The area is covered in vegetation, and the predominant plants are rosemary, thyme, cistus and lavender. The estate cultivates 64 acres of Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot grape varieties at an altitude of 1,540 to 1,670 feet; only estate grapes are used for wine production. La Verdosa is dedicated to producing elegant, easy-to-drink wines with predominance of fruit and with the complexity that expresses the combination of four varieties.
