Albanta Albariño 2011
Unoaked. Young wine.
Ultimate Wine Challenge 2013 USA 93 Points Excellent. Los Angeles International Wine Competition USA Silver Medal.
Wine from Galicia Importers and Wholesalers
A great example of ever evolving Rias Baixas Albarino; here lees character takes on a slightly stronger role, though the fruit has notes as ripe as fruit cocktail. Weightier than it is light and tangy. Drink soon or over the next few years.
The wine is the result of up-to-date production concepts using vats with specific characteristics to potentiate aromas. Strict procedures are followed in which the alcoholic fermentation is detained before completion with the object of obtaining greater smoothness and optimizing the spectacular characteristics of the variety. It is straw-yellow with bright green-gold reflections. The wine expresses distinctive aromas of fleshy fruits (acid pineapple, apricots and peaches) with a light grassy background and is recommended with shellfish, fish, poultry and feathered game, rice and fresh cheese.
About the Winery
Bodegas Altos de Torona sources its grapes from a 250-acre vineyard with sandy, granitic soil located in Vilachán, Galicia, at 700 to 1200 feet and situated between the river Miño and the Atlantic Ocean. Because it is located on a gentle slope, neither the mist nor the cold to be found on the hilltops affect the vineyard. A southerly aspect guarantees good sunshine, and this favorable setting, along with mild temperatures during summer, allow the grapes to ripen slowly and to maintain all the aromas of the varieties, as well as a significant level of acidity.
